Dexter: Original Sin
Release Date: December 13, 2024 (Showtime)
Bellistik and I have been hooked on Dexter ever since we started bingeing the original eight seasons. The storytelling, the tension, and Dexter Morgan’s dual life as a forensics expert and a methodical killer—everything about the show drew us in. Then came Dexter: New Blood, which had its moments of brilliance but left us feeling a little let down by the ending.
Now, Dexter: Original Sin is taking us back to where it all began. This prequel dives into Dexter’s early years with the Miami Metro Police Department, exploring his transformation into the serial killer we came to know and love (or fear).
The only downside? Michael C. Hall won’t be stepping into Dexter’s shoes this time. But he will narrate the series, which is a nice nod to longtime fans. Patrick Gibson will play the young Dexter, and I’m curious to see how he handles such an iconic role. The show debuts on December 13, 2024, on Showtime. For us in Australia, though, there’s no word yet on where it will stream—fingers crossed we get to see it.
IT: Welcome to Derry
Release Date: 2025 (HBO)
IT isn’t just a movie; it’s an experience. For Bellistik and me, it’s the ultimate horror masterpiece, and every rewatch still manages to send chills down our spines. Now, IT: Welcome to Derry promises to be one of the standout upcoming TV shows in 2025.
That’s why we’re so pumped. This prequel takes us back to the 1960s, before the events of the first IT movie, and explores how Derry became the haunting, cursed town we know. The original movies touched on Derry’s sinister past, but this show will dive deeper into the eerie backstory—and probably keep us up at night all over again.
HBO is releasing this one in 2025, and while there’s no confirmation yet, I’m guessing it’ll stream on Binge here in Australia, just like The Last of Us. It’s definitely one for horror fans to keep on their radar.
Alien Earth
Release Date: Summer 2025 (Hulu)
The Alien franchise is a long-time favorite in our household, with prequels like Prometheus and Covenant ranking as personal favorites. Now, Alien Earth joins the list of exciting upcoming TV shows, promising to deliver that classic blend of sci-fi horror.
Alien Earth promises to bring that same tension, horror, and breathtaking sci-fi storytelling we’ve come to expect from the franchise. The show is about a mysterious space vessel that crash-lands on Earth, forcing a young woman and a ragtag group of soldiers to face off against what might be the greatest alien threat yet.
While we don’t have an exact release date yet, the show is expected in Summer 2025—which is Winter for us Aussies—and it’ll stream on Hulu. This one feels like it’s going to be a must-watch for any Alien fan.
The Last of Us Season 2
Release Date: 2025 (HBO)
I’ve been a die-hard fan of The Last of Us ever since I played the original game on my PS3. I’ve platinumed both Part 1 and Part 2, and I even have a shelf full of collectibles dedicated to the franchise. So, when HBO released the TV adaptation, I was beyond excited.
Watching the first season was like reliving the game all over again, but with some clever twists to keep fans like me guessing. It was a masterpiece that had me laughing, crying, and fully immersed in the emotional weight of the story.
When they announced Season 2, it was on my Upcoming TV Shows list straight away. While details are still limited, we know it’ll dive into Ellie and Abby’s storyline, diving deeper into the themes of love, loss, and revenge. HBO has confirmed it for a 2025 release, and since Season 1 streamed on Binge here in Australia, I’d bet Season 2 will do the same.
Wednesday Season 2
Release Date: 2025 (Netflix)
Who didn’t fall in love with Wednesday? This quirky, creepy reimagining of the Addams Family universe was such a breath of fresh air. Watching Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams was pure joy—her deadpan humor, gothic style, and clever antics made her one of the most unforgettable characters of recent years.
Season 2 will pick up where we left off at Nevermore Academy, diving deeper into Wednesday’s life, relationships, and the dark mysteries that seem to follow her everywhere. Netflix has slated it for 2025, and I can’t wait to see what new twists and turns they have in store. If you loved the first season as much as we did, this one’s a no-brainer.
Conclusion
2025 is shaping up to be an incredible year for TV lovers. Whether you’re into serial killer origin stories, spine-chilling horror, sci-fi action, or dark comedy, there’s a show for you. With titles like Dexter: Original Sin, Wednesday, and The Last of Us returning to our screens, alongside exciting new entries like Alien Earth and IT: Welcome to Derry, it’s safe to say our watchlists are about to get a lot longer.
Make sure to stay updated on release dates and streaming platforms—especially for those of us in Australia, where availability can sometimes be tricky. Until then, let the countdown to 2025 begin!
