Beam Smasher equation: How to solve it in Terminus

Beam Smasher equation: How to solve it in Terminus

Remember when your teacher said, “One day, you’ll need algebra”? Well, welcome to that day. If you’re here, it means you’ve stumbled upon the Beam Smasher equation needed to craft the Beam Smasher in Terminus.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “What the hell? I came here to pop zombie heads, not do math!” Trust me, I said the same thing. But don’t worry—because I’m here to guide you through the solution step by step, so you’ll be back to smashing zombie skulls in no time.

Step 1: Turning On the Laptops

Once you’ve powered up the area, your first task in solving the Beam Smasher equation is to activate three laptops. These laptops will show you the shapes that represent your x, y, and z values in the equation. Here’s how to do it:

  1. To begin, approach each laptop and press the interact key (F for keyboard players)
    • The laptops are marked with a red x on the maps above
    • Note: There won’t be an on-screen prompt, therefore, just press the interact key when you’re near a laptop.
  2. Locate all three laptops:
    • First Laptop:
The first laptop is located outdoors. You’ll find it during the second time you head outside, right after the two soldiers meet their fate.
    • Second Laptop:
Next, head to the math room, once inside, exit, and turn right. Afterward, make your way up and to the left of the lift with the Pack-a-Punch machine. As you follow the path curving uphill to the right, you’ll find the laptop on a small platform.
    • Third Laptop:
Finally, locate the third laptop near the entrance to the sea cave. You’ll find it just beyond the large iron gates that open once the power is on.

Step 2: Solving X Y and Z for Beam Smasher Equation

Once the laptops are activated, the next step is to return to the math room. At this point, interact with the terminal (F) to reveal three shapes on the screen. These shapes represent the variables x, y, and z.

Beam Smasher Equation boards

Looking at the board above, here’s how we translate the shapes into numbers. Firstly, for the first shape—an empty circle on its own—we start with the number on the left, which is 0. Afterwards, we connect it to the next number below the shape, also 0, giving us 00. Therefore, this means the shape represents the number 0.

The second shape consists of two circles: one black and one white, with the white circle positioned above the black. Similarly, using the same technique, we take the number on the left and the number underneath —1 and 1—and combine them to form 11.

Therefore, by following this technique, we can determine the corresponding numbers for each shape based on their arrangement and the associated values.

At this point, let’s say these are the shapes we’ve identified. Based on our decoding, we can now determine:

  • X = 11
  • Y = 10
  • Z = 22

Next, let’s take a closer look at how to apply these values in the equations.

Step 3: Solving The Beam Smasher Equation

At last, it’s time to solve the equations using the values you’ve decoded. Remember to apply BODMAS/BIDMAS (Brackets, Orders, Division/Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction) to ensure accuracy.

Solving Number 1

The first equation is:

2x + 11

  • Firstly, multiply 2 by X:
    2 x 11 = 22
  • Next, add 11:
    22 + 11 = 33

The first number to enter is 33.

Solving Number 2

The second equation is:

(2z + y) – 5

  • First, solve the brackets:
    2 x Z + Y = 2 x 22 + 10 = 54
  • Then, subtract 5:
    (54) – 5 = 49

The second number to enter is 49.

Solving Number 3

The third equation is:

(y + z) – x

  • Start by adding Y and Z:
    Y + Z = 10 + 22 = 32
  • Finally, subtract X:
    32 – 11 = 21

The third number to enter is 21.

Wrapping It Up

Congratulations, math wizard! You’ve successfully tackled the algebraic obstacle standing between you and ultimate zombie-slaying glory. While this is just one step in unlocking the Beam Smasher, you’ve made significant progress.

However, for those who prefer to avoid the math entirely, don’t forget there’s always an alternative—you can buy the solution for 5000 essence at the guard station. However, solving the equations is far more satisfying (and saves you some essence for later).

Therefore, whether you crunch the numbers or open your wallet, the choice is yours. Either way, you’re one step closer to wielding zombie-smashing greatness. Now go forth and let the undead know who’s boss!

Finally, if you would like to join us on twitch, you can watch us run Terminus every Friday.
